What We Do
Our RCD Safety Switch Services
We handle all types of RCD installation and switchboard safety work across Auckland:
- New RCD installation — adding RCD protection to existing switchboards that currently have none
- RCD replacement — replacing faulty or outdated RCDs with modern compliant units
- Switchboard RCD compliance upgrades — bringing older switchboards up to current NZ standards by adding required RCD protection
- RCD testing and certification — testing existing RCDs to confirm they're operating correctly and issuing certification
- Fault diagnosis for tripping RCDs — identifying the underlying cause when an RCD trips repeatedly
- Full switchboard upgrades — where RCD installation reveals the switchboard itself needs replacing

FAQs
RCD Safety Switch Auckland FAQs
How much does RCD installation cost in Auckland?
−
It depends on your existing switchboard and how many circuits require protection. Call us on 0800 177 275 or request a free quote and we'll assess your switchboard and give you a clear, fixed price.
Is an RCD safety switch legally required in NZ?
+
Yes — RCD protection is required on all new electrical circuits under the New Zealand Electrical Code of Practice. Many older homes were wired before this requirement and don't have it. If you're having any new electrical work done, your electrician must ensure all new circuits have RCD protection.
My RCD keeps tripping — does it need replacing?
+
Not necessarily — frequent tripping usually means the RCD is detecting a genuine fault somewhere in your home, such as a faulty appliance, moisture in an outlet, or deteriorating wiring. It's doing its job. We'll diagnose the underlying cause before recommending any replacement.
Can I test my own RCD?
+
Yes — press the test button on your RCD switchboard. The power should cut off immediately. If it doesn't, call us straight away — a non-functioning RCD provides no protection. Test it at least every six months.
Do I need an RCD on every circuit?
+
Current NZ standards require RCD protection on all new circuits. Older homes typically have some circuits protected and others not. We'll assess your full switchboard and advise which circuits need attention.
